Has anyone had the Birmingham hip resurfacing procedure done in the USA . I would like to have some feedback? - oa hip

I was diagnoded Hip Ostioarthitis (Advanced) is expected to be operated on the hip in 2007. Of the Birmingham Hip Resurfacing procedure was recently approved by the FDA and will be much better than the hip-contract for someone like me, relatively young and active. I am 52 years old and figure I have had osteoarthritis for 10 years before being diagnosed recently. I wish someone would have undergone the surgery know.

I see that none of the patients have been presented for rejuvenation, to answer your question. I do not have the procedure, I had both hips replaced at age 58 with the metal / poly ball a few years ago, the resurf FDA-approved device. Until then, the Americans have not traveled abroad to have done (some went to Belgium).

What I can offer are some links to other reliable information about the procedure. Note that a very controversial issue among the United States or ortho surgeons on the issue. But many have grown from the hips (especially the young - I think "young" in this case is less than 50).

These links may be of interest and a website by a Swedish doctor orotho was developed as a service for patients. Singles (Something's Broken) translation into English. Also note that this site provides general information about hip replacement.

You can also search for new materials (and TEChnic) in the hip classics - things like bearings and metal-ceramic and metal, may last longer than metal / polyester, especially in people more active. A place to begin this research, I could totaljoints.info page mentioned above. You can opt out of this hip replacement of a conventionally-trained surgeon who has done a lot of the hip in men, as it is a good option. Shop around by the surgeon, while you shop equipment.

I had my hip for 4 and 4 1 / 2 years. I am very happy with them. When I replaced my hips, I had today at least a couple of questions on ceramic / ceramic bearings. In my humble opinion, the 50s have survived a bit of a dilemma - the implant could, if you live long enough and should have an opinion, if you are 70 years or even 80 years. And revision surgery is major surgery. The idea behind the resurfacing is that the preservation) of the femoral head is not reduced (, the patient will postpone a full replacement. However, replacing - the last fully is anothermajor surgery. Therefore, it can be a problem if you want your two operations 1) a job resurf primary, followed years later by the Federal Cartel Office, or 2) a THR, perhaps after many years later by a review of THR.

If you are looking for surgeons, ask lots of questions.
